What if
it Were
You?
is an HIV/AIDS poster
contest
designed
to inspire
youth to
cultivate
and communicate
a more truthful,
and inclusive
perception
of
HIV/AIDS,
promote
prevention
and compassion
and aid
the eradication
of youth
misconceptions
and apathy.
What if
it Were
You? aims
to compel
youth to
recognize
and renounce
stereotypes
and stigma,
and dispel
misguided
beliefs
about not
being at
risk. The
contest
is intended
to empower
youth to
discover
and define
their own
interpretation
of the significance
of HIV/AIDS
and design
a poster
using words
&/or images
to portray
their point
of view
and deliver
an HIV prevention
message
that will
be effectively
received
by their
peers. Allowing
youth a
voice and
a means
to convey
their message
will undoubtedly
result in
communication
methods
most likely
to command
the attention
of and have
the utmost
influence
on their
peers.

The Wisconsin HIV, STD,
and Hepatitis C Information
& Referral Center (IRC)
provides information on
the prevention, transmission,
and treatment of HIV/AIDS,
sexually transmitted diseases
(STD), and hepatitis. Individuals
and service providers around
the state of Wisconsin are
invited to search our website
or call our information
specialists to obtain information
on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted
diseases, and hepatitis.
The
IRC also provides referrals
to HIV/AIDS, STD, and hepatitis-related
services including: clinics,
testing, service providers
and other resources. Referrals
can be obtained by calling
our information specialists
or by clicking on "FIND
SERVICES NEAR YOU" on the
menu bar at the top of this
page.

Approximately 6,700 people are presumed living
with HIV/AIDS in Wisconsin today

cases were among young people ages 15-24

2008 were members of racial/ethnic minorities

People under 25 are estimated to make
up half of all new HIV infections occurring in the U.S. and HIV
remains a leading cause of death among young people. Many teens who
are infected don’t know it. |

In 2006 a shocking 86% of females
diagnosed between the ages of 13 and 19 were infected via
heterosexual intercourse. |
|
|
|
Only 57% of 15 to 17 year old females
report using a condom every time during sexual intercourse. |
